Importing Accounts

Bulk-upload a Chart of Accounts from a spreadsheet — migrate from another system or set up a new business in minutes.

The Chart of Accounts import lets you create many accounts from a spreadsheet in one action. Use it when migrating from another accounting system, setting up a new entity with a known structure, or adding a large batch of accounts at once.

Import Chart of Accounts — drop the file, match the four columns, review the preview, fix refused rows, import.

Navigate to: Finance → Chart of Accounts → Import

💡TIP

Click Download Template in the modal before building your file. It contains the headers and sample rows in the expected format — keep the column order and names.

Import Workflow

1
Open the modal

Click Import on the Chart of Accounts page. The "Import Chart of Accounts" modal opens on its Upload step with a drop zone and the template download.

2
Upload your file

Drop the .csv, .xlsx or .xls file, or pick it from your device. It is parsed immediately; a file that cannot be read shows an upload error and you can try again.

3
Review the preview

The Preview step shows every row as the system read it. Rows that fail validation are flagged with the reason — most often a Type that does not match an account type name, or a missing Account Name.

4
Resolve errors

Fix the source file and upload again, or remove the failing rows from the preview so only valid rows are imported.

5
Import

Confirm the import. The accounts are created and appear immediately in the list with a Custom badge.

What the Import Does Not Do

LimitationWhyWhat To Do
Does not set the statement group or elementThe import matches Type only; the IFRS statement group is not inferred from itOpen each imported account (edit) and pick its element and statement group so it lands in the right section of the Balance Sheet or P&L
Does not import opening balancesBalances are posted, never imported with the chartAfter importing accounts, use Opening Balances (customers and vendors) and a manual journal against Opening Balance Equity for the rest
Does not assign centersLocations are set per accountAfter import, edit each account to add its Locations if you use center restrictions
Does not create sub typesOnly Account Name, Type, Description and Sub Account are readSet the Sub Type from the account's edit modal
✅NOTE

The import creates accounts only. It does not post any transactions — every imported account starts with a zero balance.
