Sharing Lines for Review
Ask someone outside Trabalance what a bank line was — a read-only, email-gated link that can never touch your ledger.
Some bank lines cannot be classified by whoever is doing the books. Only the person who spent the money knows what the transfer was for. Rather than give that person an account, you send them a link that shows the uncategorised lines and lets them write a note against each one.
Navigate to: Finance → Banking → Share uncategorised income & expenses
The link is read-only by design. The reviewer sees lines and writes notes. Nothing they do posts to the ledger, categorises a line, or changes a balance — you still classify every line yourself afterwards.
What Gets Shared
One link covers every bank and cash account, not the one you happened to be looking at. It carries the uncategorised income and expense lines for the date range you choose, each with its date, its bank, the bank's own description and the amount.
| The reviewer sees | The reviewer does not see |
|---|---|
| Uncategorised income and expense lines in the range you set | Your chart of accounts, ledger or reports |
| Each line's date, bank, description and amount | Any classified or matched transaction |
| Any note you attached to a line | Customers, vendors, documents or balances |
Creating the Link
Share uncategorised income & expenses on the Banking page.
The preview reloads as you change it, so what you see is exactly what the link will show. Where a side has nothing, it says so.
Each line takes an optional note — "Add a note or question for this line". Use it for the ones that actually need explaining.
The link is gated to this address. Create link & share stays disabled until it is filled in.
Copy the URL and send it however you like. Create another link starts a fresh one for a different person or period.
One link per person. Because the link is gated to a single address, a manager and a site lead each need their own — and each then only answers for what you asked them.
Transaction Review
Navigate to: Finance → Transaction review
The requests you have created are listed here — No · Date · Narration · Created by · Status — with search, filters by who created it and by status, and CSV or PDF export. A row opens the request and its lines, where the transfer action is available for acting on what came back.
The page also carries a row of tabs across the accounting screens — Chart of accounts · Manual journals · Recurring journals · Transaction review — which is the quickest way between them.
The New button on Transaction review does not lead anywhere usable — the page it opens does not exist. Always start a review from Share uncategorised income & expenses on the Banking page, which is the working path.
After the Notes Come Back
Notes are context, not classification. Read them, then go to the Classification tab and do the work: categorise the line, convert it into a receipt or payment, or split it. See Classifying uncategorised money.
