How attribution works
What happens between a prospect clicking your link and a client link appearing on your Clients page.
They open dashboard.trabalance.com/register?partner_ref=<your code>, or type the code during signup.
It has to match a partner account that is active. An unknown code, or one belonging to a suspended account, attributes nothing — the business is still created, it simply is not linked to anyone.
A row joining that business to your partner account, carrying its own referral code, a commission rate copied from your account at that moment, and a source of referral_code.
Total referrals and active referrals both increase. The business appears on your Clients page with the Referred badge.
What the link carries
| On the link | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Referral code | A code unique to this one client relationship — not your partner code. It is what commission records point at. |
| Commission rate | Copied from your partner account when the link was made. Changing your account default later does not rewrite existing links. |
| Status | Active, pending or inactive — shown on the client card. |
| Started at | When the link was created. Shown as *Linked* on the card. |
This is why two clients can show different percentages on the Clients page. When a rate matters commercially, check the client card rather than assuming your account default applied.
When attribution does not happen
- The prospect signed up without the code and mentioned you afterwards. There is no self-service way to attach the referral later — ask Trabalance.
- The code belonged to an account that was not active at that moment.
- The business already existed. Attribution happens at signup, not on an existing account.
