License subscription
A plan gives you licences; each licence lets you register and manage one client business.

What a plan buys
A number of client licences. One licence lets you register one client business from the portal and manage its books. Licences are counted against clients whose type is licensed and whose status is not cancelled — a licence is released when a client is cancelled, not when it goes quiet.
| Figure | Where it comes from |
|---|---|
| Licences (total) | The plan you subscribed to. |
| Used | Licensed clients on your account that are not cancelled. |
| Available | Total minus used, never below zero. |
Registering a client with none available is refused before anything is created.
The current plan card
Plan name, billing cycle, licences used against the total, the period you are in, the renewal date and the price. Cancel Subscription is here too — see Cancelling.
Changing plan
Subscribing while you already hold a plan does not create a second one: the existing subscription is moved onto the new plan, with the licence count, price and period reset. That is how both upgrades and downgrades work.
Nothing stops you moving to a plan with fewer licences than you currently use. Your existing clients stay; you simply cannot register another until you are back under the new limit.
