Saving a Plan
Save Changes writes every cell that holds a positive value. It never deletes — which is the single most important thing to know about the plan grid.
Everything you do in the grid — adding rows, typing figures, removing rows — changes only what is on screen. Save Changes is the one action that writes to the plan.
The Button
| State | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Disabled | Nothing has changed since the grid was opened or last saved. |
| Enabled | Something has changed — a cell, a row added, a row removed. |
| Saving… | The write is in flight. |
When the write finishes a confirmation reads "Saved: 4 created, 12 updated" — how many target lines were newly written and how many already existed and were overwritten.
If there is nothing worth writing — every cell is empty or zero — the grid says "No target data to save" and nothing is sent.
What Gets Written
| Cell mode | Lines written per cell |
|---|---|
| Amount (Expenses, Cash Flow, Payroll) | One — the amount. |
| Quantity × Rate (Sales, Purchases, Production) | Two — the quantity, and the value (quantity × rate). The rate itself is not stored. |
Each line carries the row, the metric, the period start and end, and the figure. Saving the same cell again finds the existing line and overwrites it, which is why the confirmation separates "created" from "updated".
What Gets Skipped
| Cell | Result |
|---|---|
| Empty | Skipped. |
| Amount of 0 | Skipped. |
| Quantity or rate left at 0 | Skipped — the value works out to zero, so neither line is written. |
| A negative figure | Skipped. Only positive values are stored. |
Save writes the cells that hold a value. It removes nothing. So:
- Clearing a saved cell does not clear the target. The cell reads empty on screen, the save skips it, and the saved figure is still there when you reopen the grid.
- Removing a row does not remove its targets. The row and its figures come back the next time the grid is opened.
To take a target off a plan, open it from the Overview breakdown and delete it there — see The target row page.
The plan page, the Planner home list, the portfolio cards, and the active-plan attainment all reload after a save, so you do not need to refresh the browser to see the effect.
