Progress Display and Color Coding

The Planner uses one four-band colour scale — plus a No Activity state — on every progress bar and status badge, so you can read attainment without reading the numbers.

Colour coding is a management-at-a-glance feature. On the Planner home, on a plan's Overview, and inside every period and row card, the progress bar and the status badge take their colour from the attainment percentage — actual as a share of target.

The By Item view of a plan, one card per status band, built from the same components the app uses.

The Scale

BadgeAttainmentColourWhere It Appears
Exceeded100% and abovePurplePlan cards on the Planner home, row cards in the By Item view, and every progress bar
On Track80% to 99%GreenSame
At Risk50% to 79%YellowSame
Behind1% to 49%RedSame
No Activity0%Grey badge, empty barA target with no posted actuals yet

The progress bar fills to the attainment percentage and stops at full width; the number beside it keeps counting past 100%.

One Scale for Every Plan Type

The same bands apply to Sales, Purchases, Expenses, Production, Payroll, and Cash Flow plans. The scale does not flip for cost plans: an Expenses plan that spent 105% of budget shows Exceeded in purple, exactly as a Sales plan that billed 105% of target does. To read whether a result is favourable, use the amount "over" or "under" in the expanded period card together with the plan type. See Variance Calculation.

Other Colour Cues

  • Target vs Actual by Period chart — the target bar is light blue; the actual bar is green when actual met or beat target for that period and orange when it fell short. Upcoming periods are drawn muted.
  • Expanded period card — the attainment percentage is green text when actual is at or above target and red text when below.
  • Planner home — a plan whose period has ended reads Completed and one that has not started reads Upcoming, regardless of attainment; the attainment badges above apply to active plans.

Rows with No Actual Data

A row or period with a target but no posted actuals reads 0% — No Activity. This happens when a new item has not sold yet, when an account had no activity, or when the period has not started. Once a period is under way, confirm whether a 0% reflects a genuine result or documents that have not been posted.

ℹ️Colour is an indicator, not a verdict

Red means the result is far from the target — it does not by itself mean performance was bad. A planned expense that never occurred shows Behind for a cost plan, which may be good news. Always read the colour alongside the amount over or under and the business context.

A Second Scale, on One Page Only

The target row page — reached by clicking a line in a breakdown — uses a six-state scale that takes pace into account, with Achieved and Missed alongside the four here and a first threshold of 95% rather than 80%. It is the only page in the Planner that does. Everywhere else, colour comes from attainment alone.
