Reading a Plan By Item
One card per row, ranked and sortable, with each row's contribution to the total and its period-by-period record.
Switch the Overview from By Period to By Item — labelled By Account on Expenses and Cash Flow plans — and the same figures regroup around the rows instead of the calendar. This is the view that answers "which products are carrying the plan, and which are dead weight?"
The Line Above the List
A single line summarises the whole list: "12 items · 5 on track · 3 behind" — the row count, how many are at 80% attainment or better, and how many are between 1% and 49%. Rows at 0% and rows between 50% and 79% are in neither figure.
Sorting
| Sort | Orders by |
|---|---|
| Best performing | Attainment, highest first. The default. |
| Needs attention | Attainment, lowest first — the working order for a review meeting. |
| Highest actual | Actual value, largest first — what is actually earning or costing the most. |
| Highest target | Target value, largest first — where the plan placed its biggest bets. |
Rank numbers follow the sort, so position 1 always means "first under the order you chose". The first three are picked out in the brand colour.
A Row Card
| Element | What it is |
|---|---|
| Rank | Position under the current sort. |
| Name | The item, account, or employee. |
| Status badge | Exceeded, On Track, At Risk, Behind, or No Activity, from the row’s attainment. |
| "n% of total" | This row’s actual as a share of the plan’s total actual — its contribution, not its attainment. Hidden when the row has posted nothing. |
| Actual / target | Value, and units on a Quantity × Rate plan. |
| Progress bar and percentage | Attainment for this row across every period of the plan. |
The badge and the bar answer "did this row hit its own target?". The "n% of total" answers "how much of the plan does this row account for?". A row can be at 140% attainment and 2% of total — a small line beating a small target — and it will still rank first under Best performing. Read both before acting.
Inside an Expanded Card
The same metric cards as a period card — value, quantity, average unit price — but totalled across the whole plan for that one row.
Beneath them, Period Breakdown lists every period the row has a target in, with a state dot (brand for the current period, grey for past, pale for upcoming), the period label, actual against target, units, a bar, and the percentage. Click a line to open the target row page.
Only one row card is open at a time; opening another closes the first.
How to Use It
| Question | Sort by |
|---|---|
| What is holding the plan back? | Needs attention — then read the period breakdown of the worst rows to see whether it was one bad period or a steady miss. |
| Where is the money actually coming from? | Highest actual, then read the "% of total" figures. |
| Which forecasts were wrong? | Highest target, and compare each against its attainment — a big target at 40% is a planning error worth naming. |
| What should we do more of? | Best performing, filtered by eye to rows with a meaningful share of total. |
